The Benefits of Pilates Enhances body alignment while strengthening the abs, back and stabilizer muscles. Pilates stretches, strengthens and relaxes your body and when modified, is gentle enough for pregnant women, yet challenging enough for advanced exercisers.
Develop a Strong Core - Flat Abdominal and Strong Back Pilates exercises develop a strong "core," or center of the body. The core consists of the deep abdominal muscles along with the muscles closest to the spine. Control of the core is achieved by integrating the trunk, pelvis and shoulder girdle.
Create an Evenly Conditioned Body In conventional workouts, weak muscles tend to get weaker and strong muscles tend to get stronger. The result is muscular imbalance - a primary cause of injury and chronic back pain. Pilates conditions the whole body, even the ankles and feet. No muscle group is over trained or under trained. Your entire musculature is evenly balanced and conditioned, helping you enjoy daily activities and sports with greater ease and less chance of injury.
No other exercise system is so gentle to your body while giving it a challenging workout. Many of the exercises are performed in a reclining or sitting positions, and most are low impact and partially weight bearing. Pilates is so safe, it is used in physical therapy facilities to rehabilitate injuries.
Mat vs. Appartus - Which one should I do? Both Mat Pilates and Pilates on equipment are wonderful! Pilate's principles are applied in both forms and the benefits can be seen and felt in both. Listed below are some basic differences.
The springs on the equipment provides support for difficult exercises, thereby creating easier variations of mat exercises. This support means you can work muscle groups more deeply and specifically.
However just as we can make exercises easier, the machine also allows exercises to become more challenging by either adding more resistance or lessening the resistance levels. Working on equipment adds a whole new level of strength and flexibility training to Pilates.
There are literally thousands of exercises that can be performed on the equipment so you will never get bored with your workout.
Both forms work hand-in-hand and truly complement the other very nicely!

I was nervous before I began Pilates - fearing that working on the reformer would hurt my extremely tender hip. Instead the gentle stretching brought relief and increased energy. I could hardly wait for the next session! Pilate's hasn’t healed the hip, but this gentle exercise has made everything else feels better!"
